He was the chosen one, a righteous man sensitive enough to act quietly and obey the will of God. St. Joseph was rightly God’s choice to become an earthly father of Jesus Christ.
At Catholic Connect Shop, we have dedicated a range of catholic clothes to this foster-father of Jesus Christ. We have t-shirts, sweatshirts, and hoodies for men, women, kids, and toddlers with a fine-quality graphical print of St. Joseph on them. Here is a super-soft men’s St. Joseph premium t-shirt in tri-blend fabric depicting Saint Joseph with infant Jesus.
Saint Joseph, the devoted husband of Mary and protector of Jesus
As per Western Christianity and the canonical Gospels, Saint Joseph was the husband of Mary. He was a descendant of the house of King David and a Jewish man of Nazareth, a region of Palestine. The Western Church holds to Jerome’s views that both Joseph and Mary were lifelong virgins. The gospels of Matthew and Luke have the first references of Joseph.
Joseph learned of Mary being already pregnant when he married her. He wanted to divorce her quietly without bringing any public disgrace. But an angel appeared in his dreams and told him that the son was conceived by the Holy Spirit and was a son of God. Joseph thus took Mary as his rightful wife. Jesus was born in Bethlehem. Soon after the birth, an angel warned them of the danger to Jesus by King Herod the Great of Judaea. The couple along with their newborn baby fled to Egypt. The angel appeared again in Joseph’s dreams and asked them to return to the Holy Land as Herod was dead. So, Joseph chose to settle down in the holy land of Nazareth instead of Bethlehem as he wanted to avoid the danger to Jesus by Herod’s successor.
Joseph was obedient to God’s will throughout his life. He obeyed the commands of God and took Mary as his wife. He even agreed to flee to Egypt and return to Israel and settle in Nazareth. At Catholic Connect Shop, we pay tribute to this obedience virtue through a range of religious clothing. One among them is this St. Joseph Miracle Worker Unisex Hoodie made of a thick blend of cotton and polyester.
Saint Joseph the Carpenter
In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus is mentioned as the son of a carpenter. Joseph is described as a Tekton (which in English translates to a carpenter or an artisan with wood, iron, or stone). After settling down in Nazareth, Joseph taught his carpentry skills to Jesus. He raised his son in Jewish traditions and spiritual observances.
Death of Saint Joseph
The exact events that led to the death of Joseph or even his date of death are not known. The apocryphal History of Joseph the Carpenter says that he died a peaceful death at the age of 111 years in the presence of Mary, Jesus, and angels. The New Testament has no mention of Joseph after Jesus’s childhood.
Saint Joseph feast day
Saint Joseph is associated with various feast days. He is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church, Orthodox Church, Oriental Orthodox Church, and Anglicanism. He is the patron saint of workers as well as a patron and protector of the Catholic Church. He also has the patronage of the sick and of the dying. He is venerated as “most chaste” and is the patron saint of virgins too. In addition, he is the patron of fathers and married people.
According to Western Christianity, his feast day is celebrated on March 19 as a husband of Mary. The third Wednesday after Easter Sunday is also celebrated as the feast day with the solemnity of St. Joseph, spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Patron of the Universal Church in accordance with the Catholic Church traditions.
The American Apostolic Church celebrates feast day on Monday after the sixth Sunday after the feast of the Holy Cross.
Joseph was the earthly father of Jesus. He was entrusted to raise the son of God. We honor his godly character through this beautiful St. Joseph Miracle Worker Unisex V-Neck t-shirt made of ringspun cotton with a premium-quality graphical print.
In 1955, Pope Pius XII established another feast day for St. Joseph the Worker. The intention was to accentuate the dignity of labor and bring a spiritual dimension to it. It was befitting to choose St. Joseph, a working carpenter, and the foster-father of Jesus Christ as the model and protector of all the workpersons. Since the first of May is celebrated as Labor Day across the world, it was also chosen to be the feast day of St. Joseph the Worker.
